The Alice B. Toklas Cook Book

1960 paperback featuring Picasso's "The Cock and Knife"

Check out my new book! Alice B. Toklas was Gertrude Stein’s companion for over 40 years and she wrote this book after her death. Not just a cookbook but a collection of her memories with Stein and friends in Paris (including Hemingway and Picasso), it’s said to be a book of “character, fine food, and tasty human observation.”

I’m looking forward to the stories more than the recipes, as the food tends to be rich and French rather than light and simple. However, I will test and report on the infamous Hashish Fudge (featured in the Peter Sellers film, I Love You Alice B. Toklas), which sounds like a modern day Larabar with an added dose of “euphoria and brilliant storms of laughter”. Stay tuned…
